7 Ways to Good Health

1. Sleep Well

Part of the reason many people are consistently tired and lacking in energy is because they're not getting enough quality sleep. Make it a priority of yours to get seven to eight hours of sleep every night.

2. Sip Water

Water is the source of life. It helps flush toxins out of your system, promotes regularity, forms blood and other important body fluids, keeps your skin moist, and carries nutrients to cells. So drink plenty of it to keep yourself well hydrated and alert.

3. Eat Well

Ever get drowsy after lunch? Me too. Eating 5 small meals a day instead of 3 bigger meals helps reduce energy spikes and valleys, enabling more consistent performance throughout the day. The time between dinner and breakfast is the longest without food, so it's important to start off each day with fuel in your system. Always, always eat breakfast. If you don't have time for a sit down meal, eat a ceral bar or granola bar on the go and drink a glass of milk or orange juice.

4. Avoid Smoking, Caffeine, and Alcohol

None of these things are good for you. Cigarettes blacken your lungs, put you at greater risk for cancer, reduce your breathing capacity, and secondhand smoke is harmful to those around you as well. Caffeine is a stimulant that is midly addictive. It's a drug that can make you anxious, restless, irritable, unable to concentrate, and cause headaches. On top of that it disturbs your natural sleep pattern as well. Finally, alcohol in moderate quantities is not necessarily harmful. But because it is an intoxicant it impairs judgment and can have devastating effects on your life, and the lives of people you come into contact with. Also it's full of empty calories that tend to make you fat. All these things cost money too so there aren't a lot of benefits to taking them.

5. Get Regular Check Ups

Visit your doctor once a year for a check up, and see your dentist twice a year for a cleaning and check up. You'll be much more likely to spot any potential problems before they become major problems.

6. Exercise

Exercise done right is good for the body and mind. There are three basic areas: Strength, cardio, and flexibility. Anywhere from 15 to 30 minute sessions most days will keep you fit and healthy. Follow routines that you enjoy to increase the likelihood you'll stick with your exercise program. Remember that consistency is the key.

7. Relax!

Finally, when it comes to good health we all need to relax periodically to recharge our mental batteries. Learn to relax. As strange as it sounds, you need to slow down some times to go faster. Make time to slow down and enjoy.
